What happens when you run out of disk space during NB patch 7.5.0.1 update(media server)

epsilon22222

Hey all,

I encountered an interesting occurrence this morning when I was updating one of our test servers to the 7.5.0.1 patch.  Apparently, during the update, the CLT package installed fine but when it came to install the new bp package, the server ran out of space in the mount point.  This caused the server to end the update and now it thinks its a client and not a media server.

[testserver:/netbackup] ./NB_update.install

There are 2 packs available in /netbackup:
(* denotes installed pack)

        NB_7.5.0.1
        NB_CLT_7.5.0.1 *

Enter pack name (or q) [q]: NB_7.5.0.1

ERROR: This is not a NetBackup Server.
Selected pack NB_7.5.0.1 will not be installed.

Just thought I would share this information and to see if anyone else has seen this occur before.  My only option at this point seems to be to re-install the entire suite from scatch starting at the base 7.5 install.  This time of course, ensuring that disk space is available.

could you show us the output of below files from the media server.

/usr/openv/pack/pack.summary

/usr/openv/netbackup/version

/usr/openv] cat .psummary
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE !
# * means installed patch was preceded by this patch.
# + means that the installed patch installed this patch as a dependency.
NB_CLT_7.5.0.1 installed. +NB_7.5.0.1

 /usr/openv/netbackup/bin] cat version
NetBackup-HP-UX11.31 7.5.0.1

The version file is only under the /bin directory at this point it seems.

1) psummary does not showing the Netbackup server software package as installed software.

2) if that is the media server you will have version file in /usr/openv/netbcakup also.... not only under bin.

along with the above error you get...it confirms that the it does not have Netbackup base server software installed..

so install the Base netbackup .7.5 before proceeding to NB_7.5.0.1

Then how come it was originally a media server with the following lines as stated above in the install trace file:

# SYMCnetbp             7.5.0.0        NetBackup and Media Manager
SYMCnetbp.NBfiles     7.5.0.0        NetBackup and Media Manager

I thought the "bp" packages were primarily a need for server purposes? I understand that the install is recogznied as a client at this point,  but during the 7.5 install, it was a server.

the lines that you are seeing about does not mean that it has base 7.5 installed.. its just extracting the files that it has..

have you configured this server as media server already ?

did you use the same server as media server?

do you have any evidance to say that server is a media server other then install trace?
