What is NetBackup for VMware?

I'm looking for a right solution for my virtual infrastructure (I have NBU Enterprise 6.5 and VMware Infrastructure 3). I found some documents about NetBackup for VMware. But I don't know what NetBackup for VMware is.

Could you show me what NetBackup for VMware is. Is it a built-in feature of NBU Enterprise or a seperate product? Do I need to buy any other license to use NetBackup for VMware? (Beside NBU Enterprise Sever for Windows, I also have NBU Enterprsie Client 6.5 for Linux).

Thanks for any response!

I looked into it a bit a while back and from what I gathered they are seperately licensed options that can be enabled in NetBackup. You can back up virtual machines either through a client inside the VM, or outside the VM using Snapshot (This is the snapshot option you see when creating policies, which is likely greyed out). Google netbackup snapshot or netbackup puredisk and you should be able to find some youtube videos about it.

2 ways to run the backups

first is to backup from within the VM. this could be a database, file system or whatever

the second option which requires a license is to backup the entire VM. nice for DR in that you can restore it in another location and it's good to go, with the most you may have to do is change IP settings

License requirements (taken from documentation)

"NetBackup for VMware requires the NetBackup Snapshot Client license, which is included in the NetBackup Enterprise Client license."
