VTL means nothing to NBU, in fact NBU has no idea that VTL is not physical library.

VTL is a disk appliance that is configured to look like a tape library with drives and media.
It is presented to the OS as such and NBU simply sees what the OS sees.

VTL was great many years ago when backup applications did not know how to properly use disk as backup device.
This has changed in NBU 6.5 when NBU introduced Advanced Disk and OST support.

I cannot see any real advantage of VTL in current NBU environments.

You may want to read through this White Paper about VTL with NBU:

Hi Reddybass,

Welcome, seems you are new here.

Please be aware that this forum is really for break fix issues, as opposed to general question issues.

However, as you would e unaware of this I will answer the question.

NBU treats a VTL as a normal library, it knows no differencence between a VTL and a real library.

THe VTL is simply disk storage, that has a controller that makes it look like a library.
