Windows partial success

Hi

We are being reported with windows partial success backups by our users. I know there might be many reasons for the failure . But can this be avoided in any way ? We even have many links which give workarounds for the partial successful backups of Windows.

You need to look at each file that is skipped, then work with the server owner to find out if files can be added to Exclude List (Host Properties -> Clients -> select client name -> Exclude List

Files that are skipped will 99.9% of the time never needed to be restored.

If these are database files, they need to be excluded from MS-Windows policies and backed up with the relevant agent.

At times, retrying the backup after few hours might help and result with status code 0 (successfull) as you might not find those files busy again during the backup, but that's a rare thing.

Its better to get those excluded if partial success is being reported as skipped again after multiple re-attempts with same files or files from same folder

This looks like serious problems with backup of Shadow Copy Components on this client and must be seen as a FAILURE.

What is NBU version on the client?
What Windows version and patch/release level?

Does the logon account for NetBackup Client service on this client have sufficient access to Shadow Copy Components?

Are Microsoft VSS patches/hotfixes up to date?

Any errors in Windows Event logs while this backup is running?

Can Windows Backup utility on the client be used to backup Shadow Copy Components to local disk?

For further troubleshooting, ensure that these log folders exist on the client and that logging level is set to 3 as a minimum:
bpfis, bpbkar

NBU version is 7.6

Does the below article address the issue in any way?

The TN that you found is for Backup Exec (see Products link in the doc).

The section about VSS is relevant as that applies to any kind of backup product that need to backup SCC and open files.

Please see all the other questions in my post above....
