Hi, since some weeks we have problem with backuo on our Netbackup 6.5.5 on Windows 2008 R2. Every days drive become down.

I fixed this isue by deleting all drives in Netbackup and Windows, also removed ghost drive. Then I reinstalled the tape drive in Windows, 3 HP Ultrium 3-SCSI in an Storagetek SL500.

Now Windows jobs works fine, but I'm unable to create drive forn NDMP devices. We have two NetApp NAS, the System now show only one, and when I go to  Devices, Drives, Chanfe Tape Drive, Add Path and choose the only NDMP host I see and try to enter the Path I had before removing the drive I have error "Unable to query the path entered, check the path and try again. A SCSI inquiry sent to the device has failed (16)"

So I went to the NETApp server and query for the tape drive. The address are still the good one and NDMP seems to be good on that side.

Does someone has a clue where I can search to fix this issue?

Hi,

check this out from the troubleshooting guide:

Device configuration status code: 16
Message: A SCSI inquiry sent to the device has failed Explanation: On a request to add or update a SCSI robotic library or drive, Media Manager cannot obtain the device’s serial number and inquiry string. Media Manager is obtains this information by sending a SCSI Inquiry command to the device. Failure indicates that NetBackup was not able to communicate with the device by means of SCSI.
Recommended action:
■Ensure that the device is physically connected.
■Ensure that the operating system is configured to recognize the device and that the operating system can see the device.
■Ensure that no other process uses the device and that the device is not offline.

Send the following:

ONTAP version
From NetApp:

sysconfig -t

From Netbackup Server:
tpautoconf -probe <ndmphost>
tpautoconf -verify <ndmphost>

Also, is the drive shared with any other host? Sometimes, this issue is also caused of this drive is accessed but some other host.

I have verified the password on NetApp for nas1 and reset it on Netbackup but auth still failed.

Also strangely I can see nas1 when I try to add path to the device but not nas2 which authentification successful.
