alternate restore

Hi all,


i run NBU 6.5.1 on windows 2003 server.  i have a BMR/data backup of server A. and i need to restore everything including the system state to server B. how best can i achieve this.

please note server A is still on the network.

please its a little urgent.

Hello,

here we have a serve to teste the BMR restore.

I have made a DISCOVER of the destination server.

create a new SRT,
copy the current state to another configuration
change the IP/DRIVERS (unmap and map the drivers to that destination server discover)
change the IP address, FQN, GATEWAY and stuff

add a alias to the /etc/hosts of that server like
192.168.2.230 = DESTINATION IP ADDRESS  (lets call it BMR_RESTORE)
192.168.2.5      = BMR BACKED UP server        ( lets call it SERVER_A)

MASTER SERVER
/etc/hosts
# 192.168.2.5   SERVER_A
192.168.2.230  BMR_RESTORE SERVER_A

Remember, after the BMR _SERVER UP the name will be the same as the image, so U will have some DNS problem
Remember to deactivate any policy that runs o that server.

change the BMR_RESTORE name (that is SERVER_A to another name ex. BMR_RESTORE)
go to the server that U R Restoring (server_a), and run
ipconfig /registerdns  to solve the DNS problem

Doing that U will be able restoring DSR w/ the source server up.

By the way, if someone tells me why does BAREMETAL can put a server up with a different IP and can't do that w/ a different name?

I can restore a server changing the IP (than I can restore for test, w/ the production server up)

Is there any way of put the restored server up w/ a different Name?

I have tryed to change the FQN, but aparently just the dns sufix will change.
