backing up SharePoint 2013

Hello,

Let me start off by stating that I am not familiar with sharepoint. I inherited our netbackup system from a previous worker who is no longer working for the organization, there was already a configured policy for sharpoint which I viewed and it seems good for what we need (no GRT) a full weekly backup, and daily incremental backups. however there were no clients that belonged to this policy.

I have already installed the netbackup clients on both servers (front-end and back-end), configured the services to run with a privileged domain user and etc like described in the netbackup-sharepoint administrators guide and in this thread: https://www.veritas.com/community/forums/sharepoint-backup-status-code-2

there are a few things I am not clear of:

do I only add the front-end server to the policy or does this depend on the policy configuration?

how does restore jobs work?

I realize these question might not have short answers suitable for a forum, so pointers to a quick guide for dummies (that are not familiar with sharepoint) would do just fine.

thanks in advance for the help.

Hello,

take time and read some Sharepoint basics (mainly about architecture, topology) from Microsoft or so. It is always good to know something about db system itself before going on to back it up.

Then of course NBU doc is here: https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.DOC8594, including various restore scenarios.

Yes there is only one front-end web server in a policy. it performs discovery of the whole farm at the beginning of backup job and then appropriate Sharepoint component backups are taken from individual application/index/web/db farm servers. (However all these backups are catalogued under chosen web server name).

Regards
