Are they of the correct density (e.g. HCART)?

Are they in the library? (sorry for that!)

Is the scratch pool configured as such?

Has the tape physically expired?
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/316585.htm

Has the media reached its maximum mount limit (if set)?

Nearly forgot this (!) :

Re run the inventory,

Goto Media and check if tapes are freeze, if yes right click on the tape and unfreeze and run the backups.

goto the properties of master server from host properties and check for the SCSI reservation option, if its uncheck please check it and recycle the services of NBU.
