Connection from the media to the client is working fine - evidence in Activity Monitor:
10/19/2009 4:30:32 PM - connecting
10/19/2009 4:30:33 PM - connected; connect time: 00:00:01

bptestbpcd also confirms connectivity.

The problem is on the media server - after the connection to the client is established, bptm process needs to initiate a tape mount. This never happens.

You need to check bpbrm and bptm on the media server for errors.

If you listed everything you have done up to this point to attempt to resolve the issue, that way we do not post things that you have already tried.

So we'll start with the basics.  Can you ping the client from both the master/media server?  Can you ping the master/media server from the client?  Can you resolve the hostnames of the master/media server from the client?

Here is a technote to check out - its for linux, and you did not specify what the OS's are in your environment.

***EDIT***

I forgot to paste the link to the technote earlier, but we're talking about windows hosts here, so it isnt relevant.  I just want to paste it because I said I would :)

is the one for exit status 58.  This is a very good, in-depth troubleshooter for connectivity issues and it covers both Windows and unix.  Although you are not getting a 58, check out the article, attempt the suggestions it lists, and see if that clears up the connection issue.

Is this media server working fine backing up other clients?
I can see from your 1st post that the bpbrm process is started, it connects to the client but nothing happens after that  - no bptm process seems to be started on media server to request a tape mount (although all resources have been selected - tape drive, media, etc). The job fails 10 minutes after connecting to client.
Have a look at bpbrm log on media server to see if bptm process is started after connecting to client? Also check bptm log on media server for errors.

Have you checked the logs on the media server? Seems that this is where your problem is...

check client properties on the clients that it cannot backup and verify that the media server name is in the media server list for each client.
