Hi all.

I've been trying to install Netbackup 6.5 on a windows 2003 machine and keep getting the following error.

Error 1723. There is a problem with this windows installer package. A DLL required for this
install to comlpete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

Anyone else get this message or know a workaround/solution.

I've tried using this technote but it does not work for me

Vertias creates a log file in a temp folder under your <documents and setting>. Go through that.

Is your Win 2003 server fully patched? Different versions of Installer come out at different times. At the very least, make sure SP1 is on there.

Hi Simon

I have SP1 installed. Do I need any additional patches or anything.
Have you seen this problem yourself?

Nothing that the latest version of Installer hasn't fixed. You should be able to download the latest Installer version from www.microsoft.com. I would try that first. Normally, NBU expects a minimum version of the installer as a pre-requisite.

OK. Last attempt. How are you attempting the install? Try copying the distribution media to the local server in a temporary folder. Ensure you're logged on as a local administrator, change the attributes of the copied files from Read Only, and run setup.exe from there. I don't expect this to work but as Installer 3.1 is already installed I'm at a loss, other than suggesting a corrupt .dll file somewhere.

Best of luck.

Hi,

I think an other application is using and holding one of the following files mfc42.dll, mfc42u.dll and msvcrt.dll, you can check this with the sysinternals autoruns tool also with the FileMon tool or RegMon, if they are in use, try to stop the application who is hanging the dll's then perform the install, normaly the AV cause this kind of issues.

Hope this helps.

Check this out....
