The steps are in the Vault Admin Guide, page 53 seems to be the main section, though it is mentioned in other parts of the guide.

If you already use vault then you could simply add the catalog vault to one of you existing vault profiles

After that add an additional schedule to you normal catalog backup policy of the type "Vault Catalog Backup" - here you can specify the storage unit and volume pool to use for the vaulted catalog tape

That is about it really - fairly straight forward

Mark has a good idea, however, if you use a 'proper' vault catalog, this should be the last 'job' run by vault, and will be then totally up-to-date.

If you just copy the system catlog backup , then it won't contain the details of the media just duplicated ...

I could be missing something here, but I think that's right ...

When configuring vault, remember some of these points which can make your management easier:

Structure:

- Robot# (make sure it works)
  - Vault Name
     - Profile(s)

Determine what steps you want vault to do: Duplication, Catalog Backup, Eject (and Report)

All the above operations can be skipped based on your requirement, but each profile should at least "do something".

Make sure your volume pools and volume groups are selected properly  as well.

Configure vault policy after the configuration of profiles, if you want vault to be run by schedule.

Determine whether to use immediate or deferred "eject and report", this will need some thinking of how often you want to run vault policy, and how often you eject tapes out of library and move them offsite. Decide whether your offsite tapes are shipped in container or by "batch of tapes" to see if you need "container" or "slot" type of eject.

All the configuration details can be found in vault admin guide.

Oh.. it seems I missed the main question - vault catalog setup. Sorry!

The first thing is to create a "vault catalog schedule" in your CatalogBackup policy, which will later be required in the profile setup. The volume pool and storage unit is up to you, as it associates with the schedule, can be the same as normal schedule or different. The profile in vault won't ask you for that.

Only then go to the profile to enable "catalog backup", select the "vault catalog schedule" name you just created, and that's all.
