NBU 7.6.0.3
i have this RMAN policy that runs daily at 9pm. lately, the backup is taking more time to finish the backup such that it overlaps the 9pm scheduled start time of itself. so what would happen is the 9pm schedule would get pushed and starts after the backup ends.
for example, we manually ran the policy at 12 noon, it would take it around 17 hours to finish thereby going way past the 9pm schedule of itself. when it finish at 5am, the scheduled policy would then run afterwards such that i see a backup running at around 6am when it is supposed to run at 9pm.
question, is there anyway to tell a backup policy to don't run any backups when it's past the scheduled time?

Please remember that the backup window in a Policy schedule is a START window.
The backup window does not need to be open for the duration of the backup - as long as the backup goes active before the window closes, it will remain active.
So, change the Start window of the Automatic schedule to a shorter period.
Leave the Application schedule at 24x7.
PS:
You may want to talk to Oracle dba's to see if anything can be done to speed up the backups - there are various White Papers online regarding Oracle backup performance tuning...
