I have combination of SLP policies and “normal” policies and I’ve just notice that around 5/10/16 all the expiration dates for full backups (which should be 6 months after the backup date) are all two week expiration dates.
The SLP and regular full backups still show 6 month retention settings but the Client Backups report shows everything as 2 weeks.
Daily backups are two week expiration dates and those remain two weeks.
See the Screen Shot
I have consulted the Admin Guide for Netbackup 7.7.2. Section - 4. But the weired issue that on previouse it was not like it is now.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Hello,
about 2 years ago I noticed the similar behaviour and I also created a support case for this (07762132 - expiration date is displayed for non-primary copy instead of primary).
The conclusion was that it is "by design":
The expiration date value is reported for the nearest date any instance of
the image will be expired.

Michal

Please show, for one suspect backup image:
bpimagelist -L -backupid ${MYBACKUPID}
...where ${MYBACKUPID} is something like: myclientname_1234567890
05-24-2016 12:15 PM
Go to weekly schedule from policy and select "Override policy storage selection" and select weekly SLP with 6 months retention.
I guess your full backup is also going to Daily SLP with 2 week retention.

Jaweedaziz suggestion sounds very likley.
Kernal - can you do a bppllist -L NAME_OF_POLICY and show us the output
05-25-2016 12:40 AM
The retention period is a number rather than a period of time - such a "Level 3"
If someone has gone into the Master Server host properties and changed Level 3 from 6 months to 2 weeks then that changes everything.
It would be worth looking at some old images to see if they have the same "level" but now have a different period - that way you will know that the actual retentyion level has been changed

The Client backup report may possibly be showing the retention of the duplicate copy as this is in most cases the longer retention period.
Most users backup to disk with short retention (2 - 4 weeks), then duplicate to tape with longer retention as per business needs.
It will be good if you can show us bpimagelist -L output for one image (or one day) for a particular client.
We should be able to see both 6 month and 2 week retention for the 2 copies.

Hi Michal,
Yes this is by design, even in the NBU Admin Guide-I 7.7.2. Section-4 give you the details for the SLP. We have checked that and guided the customer. But customer wanted words like you or scenario where some one had such issue.
Michal can i get the archive of the case you mentioned 07762132?

Kernal

With SLP, the image expiration will show the first copy expiration date, until it expires, then image expiration will change to the later copy.
My bpimagelist output shows expirations for each copy:

Thanks for the comment.

Hi Michal,
Customer satisfied with the output that it is by design only concern was his to show me proof if this happened to somebody else.
Thanks Michal
