Hi,

Our Full NDMP backups are failing with status 86 but incrementals work fine, the environment is

NBU 6.5 on Solaris 9 Master/Media

Netapp filer FAS940 which is LVD SCSI connected directly to a SDLT600 drive in a storagetec L80

We are seeing random errors like

24/05/2009 22:47:22 - Error ndmpagent(pid=15849) MOVER_HALTED unexpected reason = 3 (NDMP_MOVER_HALT_INTERNAL_ERROR)
24/05/2009 22:47:23 - Error ndmpagent(pid=15849) NDMP backup failed, path = /vol/IESD_Data/
24/05/2009 22:47:24 - Error bptm(pid=15851) io_ioctl_ndmp (MTBSF) failed on media id IR1561, drive index 3, return code 7 (NDMP_IO_ERR) (bptm.c.8540)

..and on another occasion

17/06/2009 02:49:04 - Error bpbrm(pid=2089) socket read failed: errno = 62 - Timer expired
17/06/2009 02:49:04 - Error ndmpagent(pid=2099) send error status = 18 (NDMP_XDR_DECODE_ERR)
17/06/2009 02:49:04 - Error ndmpagent(pid=2099) SendControlMessage failed, disabling connection 1789b8 and exiting
17/06/2009 02:49:04 - Error ndmpagent(pid=2099) NDMP backup failed, path = /vol/vol1/

There are 6 volumes on the filer, and they can each be backed up as FULL when in their own policy, so im thinking the size of the backup may have something to do with these failures. Can anyone offer any assictance?

TIA

Look at NetApp filer's syslog (/etc/messages or /vol/vol0/etc/messages) and check if there's any I/O errors being reported.
