Hi

1. First Check whether there is enough free space in the drive where netbackup is installed.

2. If you are unable to ping then the db might have gone down due to corrupt logs. I had a similar problem but in Linux master. Try creating a new database instance and do a catalog recovery.

In LInux this is the way to fix it. Not sure about Windows.

      1.Run /usr/openv/db/bin/dbsrv -f NBDB

            You may get an error.

     2. Create a new database instance. Use the following technote.

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH48469

Once you have created the DB you should be able to access the GUI without any error. Then go ahead with the Catalog Recovery.

Regards,

Giri.

Which NBU version?

Have you tried to stop and start NBU cleanly?

From cmd, do 'bpdown' then use Windows Services Manager to restart Symantec Private Branch Exchange, then start NBU again from cmd with 'bpup'.
After this, check what's running with 'bpps'.

Please post all output from cmd commands.

Also check Event Viewer System and Application Logs for clues.

Hi,

Check if your EMM DB is up and running with <install_path>\netbackup\bin\nbdb_ping

The EMM service wont start if the Database is not available. You'll find info about this in the Event Viewer.

Did the issue occur after you added space, or did you add space as you saw that it was running out of space? If its the latter, check the size of the nbdb.log in the NetbackupDB\data folder.

Pls. run <install_path>\netbackup\bin\nbdb _start_stop

hi,

i tried to ping  and the reply i got was "Database [NBDB] is not available" , i also checked the nbdb.log size which is just 832kb. i will attach the screen shot i get anytime i launch the admin console.

this only started recently and it happend over the weekend while backups were running.what happened was that the server ran out of disk space, i freed up some space but have been having this issue ever since

Please do the following from cmd:

cd  <install_path>\veritas\netbackup\bin

(The default <install_path> is C:\program files)

Try again as per my post above to bpdown; then bpup.

After bpup, check what is running with bpps.

If nbemm is not in the list, check emm logs for last +- 5 minutes (since bpup command):

vxlogview -o 111 -t 05:00:00

If the above produces lots of output, run again and redirect output to a file, e.g.:

vxlogview -o 111 -t 05:00:00 > c:\temp\111.txt

Please post output.

If your EMM database got corrupted you will need to restore from hot catalog backup (I trust you have catalog backups...?)

It seems that the logging level is not high enough to give useful info.

Please follow steps in this TN to check/validate the EMM database  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH126758

The database probably got corrupted before NBU could stop services when the disk filled up. Do you have a catalog backup to restore from?

Can you recheck that the disk didn't fill up again?  EMM won't start if your disk is full.  (Or at least, it shouldn't!)
