how SLP works for OST optimized duplication

Hi All

would like to know how slp works for  OST optimized duplication . I heard data transfer is OFF of mediaserver, and mediaserver role is just to establish connection and data flows between data domains .

But bpdm runs on mediaserver , and it means its performing some IO operation on disk.SO is it true that data directly flows between data domains ? not mediaserver reads from one datadomain and writes to other ? please clarify

True

This feature is called optimized duplication.  Most OST devices support this feature - also data domain.

Data is internally replicated between two OST devices and the result is reported back to the media server using the OST framework. For data domaiun you need to use the BOOST plugin from EMC also.

CIFS and NFS shares can not be used as optimized duplication source and target.

As Nicolai explains, Opt dup is flow of data directly between the storage devices, eg. Datadomain or similar.

NBU just 'manages' the process, and receives the file metadata so it can update the catalog.

SLP itself works exactly the same, in fact SLP isn't aware itself if opt dup is used or not.
