hi
we are implimenting dfs across three servers and we want to back up certain folders that contain hundreds of sub folders from one if the servers in the dfs group.
our folder structure will be ...
userhome
userhome\aa1
userhome\aa2
userhome\aa3
Etc
I am looking to see if any knows if there is a way to setup a dfs policy that will break down subfolders into groups, so we can breakdown the total size of the userhome backup into mulitple backup policies.
currently our backup sersction for the policy is
Shadow Copy Components:\User Data\Distributed File System Replication\DfsrReplicatedFolders\userhome\
but we would like to get to the setup below.
Shadow Copy Components:\User Data\Distributed File System Replication\DfsrReplicatedFolders\userhome\a - g
Shadow Copy Components:\User Data\Distributed File System Replication\DfsrReplicatedFolders\userhome\h - s
Shadow Copy Components:\User Data\Distributed File System Replication\DfsrReplicatedFolders\userhome\s -z
does anyone have any ideas how we can break down the policy syntax to cover this?
any help or suggestions will be appreciated.
thanks in advance

lots of work and have to be oh so careful.
the issue is that you would be trying to make more than one ShadowCopy on the same drive at the same time.
I see no reason why you could not do wild carding in your selection [a-z] just like any other backup selection.
