how to limit a backup policy to use certain range of barcode on Netbackup

I tried to figure out a way to use certain barcode range of tapes for one backup policy only by moving them to a different volume pool and setting the policy to use this volume pool. But i found later the backup policy is using different tapes out of this range. Not sure if i didn't give enough tapes or i did a wrong way.

Can someone share your experience if you ever did the similar?

thank you in advance !

Why are you trying to micro manage NBU? NBU knows where backups are written. It will request the correct media for restore. Leave NBU to manage media. It does a good job doing so.

Sounds like you ran out of specified tapes and it pulled others from Scratch pool.

this is my original thought. i will assign more tapes to the same pool and give it a try. thank you for your sharing.

it is a virutal tape library, since we couldn't get any deduplication ratio from compressed SQL backup tapes, i try to exclude them out from our regular backups to save our vlibary deduplicaiton license.....

Maybe consider alternative options -
- Send compressed backups direct to physical tape.
- remove compression from SQL backups. Compression is a no-no with dedupe storage.
