NBU is an enterprise-class backup application, while BE spans from small business to large.

1. Backup exec basically is designed for Windows platform while Netbackup is designed for aan enterprise environment where multi-platform exist.

Backup exec can also support other platforms but as a client server only. 

Media Server of Backup Exec should only reside/installed into a Windows Server. While Netbackup, the media and master server can be installed both on windows and non-windows server.

2. Backup exec has Continous Protection server feature while Netbackup has none.

Also, I just want to add, the backup images from Backup Exec can be imported and restored using Netbackup

NetBackup is an "Enterprise" solution involving backups, duplications, disk storage and staging, multiplexing, multistreaming and reporting.

BE is Windows-based as a media server ONLY. Linux and Unix etc are only supported with remote agents!

ah all right , so on my case the customer has 10 VMs ( vmware vsphere ) running windows Server and 4 VMs runing linux ( debian , suse ) so on this case when i will backed them with Backup exec vray edition that's a coorect solution

Backup Exec V-Ray will work just fine in this case! Just make sure the media server is a physical server which is supported by Symantec...a VM running BE isn't!

so , you mean hat the mdia server must be a physical server not a VM ?

...running BE on a VM is an unsupported configuration. There are numerous topics on this on the BE forums. I've been in a situation where I have had to do this (not my choice) and it does give you hassles.

The other thing being that Symantec till not support you unless you can reproduce your issue on the media server VM on a physical machine...

so you recommend that the media server must be physical server for best performance that's it ?

Yes...connections to tape drives and libraries are easier; support is easier; no need to worry about your server possibly VMotion'ing to another server and not being able to because it has a drive attached via SCSI pass-through etc.

A physical server is recommended at all times!

all right craig , really i appreciate your help and thank you so much , just a  question on my case the tape libraries is connected to SAN switch (FC) further the disk array , so it's fine ?
