What is the hierarchy of master media and client server in any environment?

I mean If master is of 7.1 version ,my media server casn be of 6.5 version and client of 5.0 version?

What is the rule?

That's the rule from Symantec Compatibility Guide

 

Here's another take on it

  • Media and Client server backwards compatibility extends only one major release behind the master server.  A NetBackup 7.0 Master is compatible with 6.x media and client system, however, NetBackup 5.x and earlier systems are not compatible.
