multi homed media server MSDP

dav_tlse
Level 2

We would like to put the following backup architecture. (see the scheme) witch enable to backup up virtual machines using vmware policy and realize traditional backup for physical server and VM also.

All our vlan are filterd by our firewall.

In order to optimize network stream , we vant to put 2 NIC in our media server.
one connected to the backup vlan
one connected to the management network to the hypervisor. (for optimize network flow of the vmware polocies)

The gateway is defined on the backup vlan.
Each IP has his FQDN

For the storage unit, we wanr to implement MSDP (our storage is "plenty" of disks inside our media server)

This MSDP will be the storage unit for VM and physical server

My question :

When we configure de media server , do we put FQDN of the media server on the hypervisor network or the FQDN on the backup server ?

When we configure the storage server,  do we put FQDN of the media server on the hypervisor network or the FQDN on the backup server ?

Does a documentation exist to help the configuration of of MSDP multihomed ??

Thank for any help .....

Use the FQDN for for the backup Vlan. FQDN and default gateways is closely related. Basically if the OS can't figure to go from one host to another, it ask default gateway to figure it out.

There is no multihomed MSDP documentation, because normal IP routing rules apply  to MSDP traffic. Strictly IP, no involvement of Netbackup.
