Hello all,

I must to decomission one old media server tester, but the nbdecomission procedure doesn' t work fine.

Below the particoular procedure:

nbdecommission -oldserver INTESATD1-99-8
You want to decommission INTESATD1-99-8. Is that correct? (y/n) [n]: y

Administrative Pause set for machine INTESATD1-99-8

One or more of the following jobs could be running on media server INTESATD1-99-8:
JOBID TYPE POLICY CLIENT
5655013 IMAGEDELETE
Before proceeding further, please make sure that none of these jobs are
running on media server INTESATD1-99-8. This command may not be able to
decommission the media server with active jobs on it.

Alternative delete the storage server before runnig nbdecommision - but it require no active backup are assigned to that media server

Riaan has posted a guide about using -list_ref for nbdecommission command:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/nbdecommission-partial-decommissions-skipping-ost-disk

So you might want to run that to check what could be the leftover references to your storage server ccmdd04.

The core dump seems to have fail when it's trying to check the images in it. On INTESATD1-99-8 try doing this:

# bpimmedia -l -dp <diskpoolname> -stype DataDomain

(Get <diskpoolname> by doing:  nbdevquery -listdv -stype DataDomain -U)

Will this core dump?

It seems that there may be a bug or shortcoming in this older NBU version.

All we can suggest is to manually remove PD config.

You can follow the steps in this TN:  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH150431

Ignore references to SLP and replace PureDisk with DataDomain.
Skip step 13 (PDDE_deleteConfig).

Hope this helps.

This is probably why nbdecommission failed. This older version of the command probably does not take into account that other media servers are still using the Storage Server.
The media server entry will have to be removed from Storage Server config.

You need to restart NBU on master server to re-read SERVER entries in bp.conf.

Use nbdecommission with  -list_ref option (as suggested above) to see if any other references to the media server still exist.
Check emm database as well with:
nbemmcmd -listhosts -verbose

This is the OS killing the command becuase it did somthing it wasn't allowed.

What version of the nbdeommission are you using ?

Update:

The download page for the nbdecommisiong utility has gone in the recent web changes.

NBU 7.1.0.1 should have nbdecommission included in its binaries without the need for a separate download.

This version of NBU is so old... as you can see - the release date was June 2011.

Any possibility you can patch to the latest 7.1 level?
Or upgrade to a newer version?

NBU Master Download page:  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH65429

It seems as if the decommission process is failing with removal of DD storage server for this media server.
Is this media server still available?
Are there any unexpired images for this media server on the DD?

It seems you have not specified any 'newserver' for nbdecommission command, right?
What do you expect NBU to do if any unexpired images exist for this media server?

Hi all,

thank you for feedback.

We can not upgrade the master server.

This media server is still available, it is a media that we have used to test, and it don't has unexpired images.

Hi Efi G,

I have used only Storage Unit "INTESATD1-99-8_ccmdd04", and I don' t have SLP, so I don' t have duplications in pending status.

I used this Storage Unit 2 month ago for test Teradata backup.

tks

Hi Marianne, I read the TN

 http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH150431

but I don't can set down Data Domain because it is used from other media servers..

..so, Marianne I deleted manually the Storage Unit "INTESATD1-99-8_ccmdd04" and now I unchecked the media server "INTESATD1-99-8" from Storage Server. Before the Storage Unite deletion I was not able to uncheck the media.

Now manually I delete "SERVER = INTESATD1-99-8" in bp.conf of the master server.

You think after these operations, the media server will be correctly decommisioned ?

thank you !

oooooh yesssss, I re-run the nbdecommsion and voilà:

Media server INTESATD1-99-8 has been successfully decommissioned.

Now proceed to do the same procedure for another media INTESATD1-99-9, and after I will update you.

for now tks a lot

ok, I decommisioned all media servers.

I confirm that it is necessary remove manually the Storage Unit, and after run nbdecommision.
