nbdisco not starting

Hi Team,

We have NBU 7.6.0.4 hosted on windows 2008, its clustered master using Veritas SFWHA.

Whenever we restart NBU services, the nbdisco service  starts and them stops and causes cluster to fault.

Please advice.

Regrads,

BShet

Please consider upgrading your environment.
In version 7.6.0.x, Intelligent policies (that introduced nbdisco) were very new.

Plus all versions of NBU up to 7.6.1.x will reach EOSL in about 4 months...

What evidence suggests that nbdisco is the cause of the cluster failing over? When you say it stops, does it crash? Does its log file tell you anything?

This is the NetBackup Discovery Framework service. It gathers information on the client about the file system and applications such as Exchange and Oracle into XML files, and sends the XML files to the master server.

Does the cluster fail over if you disable the NetBackup Discovery Framework service before you restart NetBackup services?

I think first of all you need to exclude nbdisco from the list of services that VCS monitors:
1. Offline service group with NBU
2. Modify HKLM\Software\Veritas\Netbackup\CurrentVersion\cluster\Instance1\ClusteredServices and remove nbdisco
3. Online service group
4. Invesigate nbdiso's start isssue in calm and relaxed way :) All you need is to increase debug and diag levels (by default diag level is 6):

vxlogcfg -p NB -o 400 -s DebugLevel=6 -s DiagnosticLevel=6

Try to start nbdisco service

vxlogcfg -p NB -o 400 -s DebugLevel=1 -s DiagnosticLevel=6
vxlogview -p NB -o 400 -d all -t 00:30:00 > C:\<your_desktop_path>\400.txt

and post 400.txt here. In most cases you'll have to use differen path for the output file

Hi Mike,

I have removed nbdisco from the monitored services and my cluster is up and running.

The concern is nbdico starts and then after few moments it crashes and some times it runs without any issues.

Trying to solve this issue.
