This doesn't make sense to me. bplist tells me files have been backed up, yet when I try to restore, I get failures on the restores. There
must be some simple concept I'm missing here. netbackup 6.0 mp7 with ndmp option. The tape library is attached to a media server, not
the master.

You did not give any details about NBU, NAS device or NDMP protocol....
See this extract from TN 267773:
Note on file restore to a different location
When restoring files from NetBackup backups of NAS filers that use older
versions of the NDMP protocol (V2 and V3), the destination path for the restore
must end with the original folder and file name, even if you are restoring the
files to a different location. (This restriction does not apply to NAS filers that
use the NDMP protocol V4.)
If the original backup path was /vol/vol1/mydir/myfile, the destination path for
restore to a different location must end with /mydir/myfile. Otherwise,
NetBackup appends /mydir/myfile to the end of the destination path.
For example, to restore /vol/vol1/mydir/myfile to a folder under /vol/vol2/,
specify /vol/vol2/mydir/myfile as the destination.
**** ALSO:
For any restrictions unique to a particular NAS filer, see the appropriate section
in this document for your filer.

Actally, I did say this:
. netbackup 6.0 mp7 with ndmp option. The tape library is attached to a media server, not the master.
I implied an emc celerra box when I gave the command line option
-C $emccelerahostname
So at any rate, it is an emc celerra version 5.6.49-3. This celerra is 4 months old, so I would not
expect it to be included as an "older" nas filer. While I assume
that it is running ndmp protocol version 4 since that is supposed to be the default, I haven't really
figured out how to confirm this. There is no override value in /nas/server/slot_2. There is only
this with respect to ndmp:
param NDMP md5=1
I tried changing the rename entry from
change /mayhome01 to /maycontent24
to
change /mayhome01/dws/procedures/emc to /maycontent24/dws/procedures/emc
and got an error 5 on the restore.

Apologies - I missed the NBU version in your OP...
We have experienced restore problems with EMC Celerra at one of our customers that was solved with fairly recent NBU 6.5 patches - if I remember correctly, 6.5.5 or 6.5.6.
