need know about parent job

Hi experts,

Having two queries

1. My FTP(VM) server, whose backup is running through netbackup client(not through Netbackup VM).Now I started backup with mutilple streaming for all drives i.e. C,D,E,F, Backup of F drive (child stream) is failed with 156 (snapshot error encountered) and I restarted that job and then its completed but at last parent job failed with 156 error, In BAR, backup of all drives is available. Now can anyone please let me know wheteher this backup can be considered as successful?

2. One RMAN backup whose parent job failed with 6 error code due to mount point inconsistency (I/O error), but some of its child job completed and wrote data to media. This backup is of no use. As per my knowledge, completed child jobs data should be expired automatically if its parent job failed, but Now as per client backup report on master server, its showing completed child jobs.

Master server Solaris 10, netbackup 7.1.0.3

Media server Solaris 10, netbackup 7.1.0.3

FTP server : Win2003

Db server: Solaris 10, Oracle 11G

  1. Post the detailed status of the parents jobs
  2. That question was answered here https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/oracle-db-backups-using-excess-media (they should disappear after 24 hours)

  1. Your FS backup is valid
  2. You can expire those images. NetBackup depends on oracle to send it the "set" of data stream which make up the database. If something happens to a stream you have a broken set, so it probably of no use (at least for full recovery). I would run the backup again.

in oracle backup set , out of 10 jobs if 9 jobs got successfull and 1 job got failed.. it can not be used for Full recovery.

but since all 9 jobs are successfull netbackup will not remove them untill it met the set retenction period..

in your case.. Netbackup does not remove them, since the job is marked as successfull in netbackup for that specific stream.

you have to find the related streams and expire them manually.

Hi,

Lets back up one minute here. First you said

Then you say

1.Need to know why this parent job is failed while all its child job completed. and also its failed with 156 error while backup is through netbackup client.

So did all the child jobs complete (without rerun) or did one fail?

If you've posted the parent job from the session where F failed, then yes, it would say it got a 156, because F did. It wont change after you run the child job again.
