Hello,

I need to remove some tape drives from our NBU environment, we have SL8500 library and tape drives are not shared.

Is there any step by step guide to remove tape drives from NetBackup?

Regards,

Sushil

Do you want to remove tape drives only or the library as well?
And what are the plans once the tape drives have been removed?
Will it be replaced with new drives?

To remove tape drives is quite easy.
Simply select the drives one-by-one, delete the drive, go to the next drive, delete, until all have been deleted. Restart NBU Device Management service. You will now have a robot with no tape drives.
At this point you need to configure new devices or storages to write backups to.

If the library must also be removed, then do so and restart Device Management service. All tapes will now be Standalone (non-robotic).

Delete the Storage Unit and remove the STU from backup policies.
Hopefully you have configured something else to configure new STU that can be selected in the policies.

If you have SLPs, those have to be updated as well.

Hi

Best would be to follow the Admin guide, under documentation. You can get it from:

http://go.veritas.com/nbu

Of just have a look at Marianne's signature for "Handy NBU links"
