netbackup 7 linux media server installation

hi ,

I am installing a netbackup media server on red hat linux-the master server is on windows.

However during the install on the linux -it never asks whether i need to install a media server or master server -it goes through a straight install. And i can see in the bp.conf file checking the emm server details that it  is a master server.

Am i missing out on something or is this expected nehaviour and i need to make manual changes to point to the real master server?

The initial install process is identical for master and media server:

        1)  OpsCenter Server
        2)  OpsCenter Agent
        3)  NetBackup Server Software
        4)  Exit from this Script

Choose an option:  [1 - 4]: 3

After installation of binaries, the following questions are asked (extract from install_trace... on my lab media server :(

If this machine will be using a different network interface than the
default (v240-3), the name of the preferred interface should be used
as the configured server name.  If this machine will be part of a
cluster, the virtual name should be used as the configured server name.

Would you like to use "v240-3" as the configured
name of the NetBackup server? [y,n] (y) y

Is v240-3 the master server? [y,n] (y) n

What is the fully qualified name of the master server? nbuclus

You can see the default answer to the y/n questions are all (y) - so, if one just press Enter, Enter, it will install as master server.

Please post your install_trace log as attachment or else find the section that corresponds with the example above.

***Edit ****

I just had another look at the Licensing section of the installation (prior to Server name selection):

*****************************************
A NetBackup Server or Enterprise Server license key is needed
for installation to continue.

Enter license key:
XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-P:
NetBackup Enterprise Server Base product with the following features enabled:

.......
******************************************

Please double-check your license key - you can only choose media server in subsequent selections if you add Enterprise Server  or Enterprise Client  license key.

Your master server should also have Enterprise Server license and not NetBackup Server.

Please check your license key and/or installation log.

Does the install prompt you to enter License keys?

If yes - then you may not have the appropriate license key to do the install.

If no - then you are using the client install CD/Software. You need to get the Media/Master software in order to install a media/master server.

Please have a look at the step-by-step instructions in the Unix/Linux Install Guide starting on p. 47 under the topic To install NetBackup media server software.

Please compare with steps that you have followed and let us know where it went wrong for you.

Also see if you can find the installation log (install_trace.####) - it should be under /usr/openv/tmp. Please post as attachment.

As per the bottom section of my last post - check your license key.

Please post your installation log.
