netbackup assurance reports

Are there any default reports I can run on netbackup 7 (I dont use netbackup myself) to list:

1) What is being backed up for a specific server (i.e. what drives etc)

2) What backup schedule has been configured for the same server (i.e. how often the backup job runs)

3) Backup history, i.e. all backups run (including failed jobs) over the last 30 days.

4) Where exactly the backup is being written too... (if disc to disc)

This is a virtual server.

Sounds bit of Audit, anyways NetBackup internal reports can help you here however you would need basic/intermediate knowledge on its working principals and terms.

Within Admin Console, You can see reports tab , All you can do is to surf through it to get detailed reports

Else you can have OpsCenter deployed on master server (if its 3 Tier Architecture, although you can install it on seperate system). OpsCenter is complimentary reporting tool available with NetBackup (can be downloaded from fileconnect)

Basic opsCenter provides past 60 days historical data. Which should be quite sufficient as per your needs. For More granular reports with customizations, you may consider activating Analytics feature (licensed) in opscenter

For analytics you may request your sales rep for eval key.

Best of breethe is NBU commands guide, go through it , you would end up being expert soon on it. :)

All the best , hope above was resourceful to you

can you give some pointers on exactly which default reports would retreive the information I am after, yes its for audit purposes. I would have thought this information is needed by backup admins all the time so surely a product such as netbackup should have this information readily to hand?

Process sounds bit lengthier for auditing NBU environment, Once you have all raw material handy next thing is to get it in readable format for easier interpretation :) (Most imp in AUDIT)

There are internal tools with Symantec and certified specialist partners which gets complete environment info of NBU domain. Not sure if you are either of (can't see your badge representing same :)

For Backup selection and schedule of server (it also includes backup storage units (i.e. backup target destination)

Try below it gives output in XLS pretty ease in understanding (its actually formated version of bpplout syntax

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/downloads/netbackup-policy-reporter

For 30 Days backup history. Under Reports in Admin console, Click on all reports

Specify desired timeframe , select all clients and go.(it would be time consuming.

Also verify if logs are configured to be kept for 30 days in NBU master server host properties (as far i know it keeps it for 28 days.

Although there are no direct export optino of this logs.. You need to copy paste them in xls. (output will be without headers. so bit more typing ;)

Hope it helps. Do let us know how it goes.
