Status 58 is mainly due to hostname and IP resolution (Master, Media,Client).
Kindly check the entry in /etc/hosts file.

Run the following from cmd on master (and media server if they are different):

bptestbpcd -client <client-name> -debug -verbose.

The output will be servers incoming address in clients bpcd log file, followed by client attempt to resolve the IP address to hostname and then compared with SERVER entries.

Ensure the hostname and IP Address in /etc/hosts file.

Check fourms.

PLEASE create bpcd log folder on client before running bptestbpcd.

bpcd log entries are needed to check/verify reverse lookup on client.

Hi tried bptestbpcd getting below error C:\Program Files\VERITAS\NetBackup\bin\admincmd>bptestbpcd -client apsydnm01 <16>bptestbpcd main: Function ConnectToBPCD(apsydnm01) failed: 25 cannot connect on socket

the backup was running fine for past 2 years without any issues. think what cuased this connection issue.. i have added the hosts entries  on both media and master server.

As per my previous post - the only way to troubleshoot is to check client's bpcd log file.

This log wil tell you how client is resolving server's incoming IP address to hostname and if this hostname can be matched with SERVER entry.

The bpcd log is the SERVER's bpcd log. (We can see that bptm process is started). We need to see the CLIENT's bpcd log.

By the way, you need to see about upgrading, soon!

Hi,

In the bptestbpcd command instead of client hostname, Plz give IP address and check.

bptestbpcd -client apsydnm01

bptestbpcd -client <IPAddress> -verbose.

ip address gives the same issue,

<16>bptestbpcd main: Function ConnectToBPCD(ip address) failed: 25
cannot connect on socket

Guys, thanks for your help.. it was just the netback up client service causing this issue.. restarted the service on client machine and it worked. .  :)

Glad you got it fixed. By the way - there is no admincmd on a client, neither is there a need for. Bptestbpcd is executed on the SERVER, then check bpcd log on the CLIENT. You just need to create the folder on the client under netbackup\logs.
