Hello,

Can I have a netbackup master/media server 6.5 with Solaris OS (Solaris 10 SPARC) and an extra media server (same netbackup version) on e.g. Redhat Enterprise Linux 6.x OS ?

Thanks,

Evagelos

You can find all Compatibility Lists here: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH59978

Have a look at the OS Compatibility Lists (6.x and 7.x).
ANY combination of supported Master, Media servers and Clients listed in these docs can be used.

We have customers with just about all OS's in the same environment, e.g:
Linux master, Solaris, AIX, Windows and Linux media servers with clients on all of these OS's.
Another customer has AIX master, AIX, HP-UX, Linux and Windows media servers.
(Many more such examples.)

Symantec has supported mixed OS'es for as long as I have known NetBackup (15 years).

Please note that NBU 6.5 ran out of support almost 2 years ago.

Latest NBU version is 7.6.0.2.

Yes, NetBackup can support this kind of scenario.

Just make sure all master and media using the same version NBU.

NetBackup supports master, media and client on different OS, but RHEL 6 is supported as media server from version 7.1 only.

6.5 is old and EOL, dont use it.

Hello Andrew2,

Thanks a lot for the fast and very useful answer. Without any intention to doubt your answer, do you have in mind any document that refers to the supportability of this scenario, because I haven't found any?

Thanks,

Evagelos

Hi, Evagelos,

We can use NBU cross-platform.

But, I didn't notice you want to use NBU 6.5, it's really too old.

Please use some newer NBU if possible.

And, you can find the NBU Compatibility List under:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH59978&key=15143

Thanks!

Hello Riaan,

According to OS compatibility matrix of NBU 6.5, NBU 6.5.6. is supported on RHEL 6.x.

Also I agree that NBU 6.5 is old and EOL but there is no alternative for me.

Thanks anyway,

Evagelos

I suppose they must have dropped it from the latest guides it is EOS (not just EOL)?
