Hi,
We have one master server (which is also media server and client) and one Robotic (SL3000) to perform tape backups.
We just bought one linux server intended to be our new media server. The idea is to have one master server and 2 media servers.
What we already have done :
- installed linux on the new server
- installed netbackup.7.7.3 on the new server
- the master server can see the new media server ( in the Administration Console -> Host properties -> Media Servers )
Now we are not sure what to do. We want to be able to select this new media server in policies.
We think to use the wizard (Configure storage device), can you ensure us this is the right way to proceed ?
thanks a lot.
Claude

First - you have to make sure the new media server sees the tape drives at the OS level
scan -tape , or sgscan tape should show the drives, if not, you need to make sure the OS sees them.
Once you can see the drives at the OS, then you can use the wizard to add them in.
DID YOU KNOW - netbackup uses the drives in alphabetical order, unless you set up special storage groups. You can name your drives so the sequence rotates though your hba or master media servers if you want to try to balance the load.

The wizard will assist you in adding a new storage unit that will represent the new media server. This new storage unit can then be referenced in a Policy (Attributes tab --> Policy Storage)

Hi,
thanks for you answers.
We use a capacity license and we want to share the tape drives between media servers
We will use the wizard.
Thanks again.
