Hi,

i recently upgaded from NB 7.1 to 8.0. My master is a RHEL virtual machine and i have a new appliance 5240 acting as a media server and still an old media server running nb 7.1. This 7.1 host is robot control host and the only one connected to tape until now.

Problem is on some policies my duplication is working and on others not. One problem is the following see log below. Any ideas?

Hi,

Kindly provide ouput of SLP configuration for affected job:-

<install path>\netbackup\bin\admincmd\nbstl <affected SLP name> -L

<install path>\netbackup\bin\admincmd\nbstlutil -backupid FRAALTT2_1505902514 list -L

Keep in mind that in this instance the 8.0 source media server (appliances) becomes the client of the 7.1 target media server.
This is not supported.

You are lucky that some duplications are working.

You need to upgrade the 7.1 media server as a matter of urgency.
"invalid command parameter (20)" is a clear sign of a new feature not being understood by the older NBU software.

thanks sujay24

Marinanne i guess you are right. I just changed the robot control host to the new appliance and changed all SLP to refer to those storage-devices. Now it looks good. Duplication is working :)

Can you give me a hint how to decommission the old 7.1 media server.

thanks

Hi,

To decommisssion media server run below command from master server:-

<install path>\netbackup\bin\admincmd\nbdecommission -oldserver <decommissioning server name> -newserver <master server name>

-newserver should be the Appliance so that all tape and image ownership is transferred to the appliance.

/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/nbdecommission -oldserver <7.1-server-name> -newserver <appliance-server-name>

thank you very much. Appreciate your help Smiley Very Happy

sorry for late response i was on vacation so i try to decommission the server today but without success :(

The wizard asked me to move images referencing to old server but unfortunately i am not quite sure what images are affected. How to find out what images are meant?

This is the log, so i guess the tools refers to images on our old data domain but not sure Smiley Indifferent

There may still be some images referencing the old server.
Do you wish to move those images to a different server? (y/n) [n]:

Have you tried to run nbdecommission -oldserver <media server to expire> -list_ref

This should list any references that still might exist in your environment. Once you know the references, you can proceed with removing them or moving them to a new media server.

So, did you specify the new appliance as 'newserver' in nbdecommission command?

Can you show us the command that you used?
