The NetBackup Client service is probably getting started as LocalSystem as a result of the upgrade.

Change the Client service logon account on the Exchange server back to the Exch Admin account.

i believe there're some changes on the directives used for Exchange in 6.5.x.

Check out page 63 of http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH68578, you might want to add another "*" at the end like:

Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes:\*

check the client service account is still the exchange admin account you used to use and then delete and re-add the directive for the mailboxes in the policy

see if that helps - note that you need to do a full backup run first time around after a policy change

The changed Client Service account as a result of the upgrade is normally the culprit....

Also verify the Exchange Mailbox account in the Client's Host Properties or in Client's registry.

Hi

I  have  tested the exchange server backup with  "*"  option, still not working, it comes up with 69 code (invalid filelist specification).

Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes:\*   - Not working

Previously we are not using any service accounts for the same mail box backups. any special setting for 6.5.6 on Exchange Mail Box Backups.

No special settings on Host properties, the same server used to work with 5.1 mp4.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Babul

Have you checked the NetBackup Client service logon account?

Please go carefully through this TN as if this is a new installation:  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH18705

More TN's:  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH38737

Is your Exchange server cluster? If so, you need to use a vritual hostname rather than the node name.

Actually I forgot to mention something basic to check...

Go to your Exchange server host, launch the BAR GUI and select "MS-Exchange" policy type, then "browse for backup", you shoud see a "Microsoft Information Store:\".

It needs to be there for you to backup the Exchange component, change your backup selection to "Microsoft Information Store:\*" to see if it works. In fact, backing up this directive with GRT option you will be able to restore individual mailboxes.

Therefore, "Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes" is not necessary going forward. In Netbackup, I can't remember the last time I ever saw that component appearing in BAR GUI, you probably need some kind of Windows MAPI to be able to view it. Try out: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=3671

I see you said in your last post "Previously we are not using any service accounts for the same mail box backups".

This is simply not possible - A dedidated mailbox/account has ALWAYS been a requirement for mailbox backups. The TN's that I've posted above were written long before NBU 6.5 and updated to also include 6.5.

You can confirm requirements for 6.5 in the NBU 6.5 for Exchange manual http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH52811

Your backup selection is correct: Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes:\

Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes:\* will generate a job for each mailbox.

In my opinion, error code 71 and error code 69 in backup exchange was same.

Thats because of autentication problem.

see this link http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO41853&key=15143&actp=LIST

Configurasi backup exchange

First of all:

  • The individual mailbox item backup utilizes MAPI for Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007. While Exchange 2003 does have MAPI already installed, Exchange 2007 does not have MAPI installed by default. It may be necessary to download and install the latest Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects package. This can be obtained from www.microsoft.com/downloads/

  • Create Account for backup and Restore Mailbox with unique name :

  • Member of Domain :

  • Grand this Account as Fully Exchange Administrator (Delegate Control)

  • Change Account Services in target Server, after that restart the services

  • Create Policy Backup

Friends,

Thanks for your  suggestions

The Exchange mail Box Service account password wiped out after  upgrade. so new  account and new password set for mails. This solution works fine.

Once thanks for Great Support.
