Hi,
Hopefully someone can help with the following problem.
We migrated from a solaris backup server to a RH backup server.
Everything works fine, except for the NDMP shared tapedrives they remain in RESTART mode even after restarting the services and/or rebooting.
The NDMP Tapedrives are direct attached to NetAPP via FC.
Anybody any ideas?
Thanks,
J

you probably need to power cycle the tape Drives.. if that did not help you need to reboot the NAS filer to resolve this issue...

We migrated from a solaris backup server to a RH backup server.
Please tell us more about the migration steps that were followed?
Have you tried to verify NDMP credentials on new server? or to delete and re-add devices using the wizard?

We used the following procedure :
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH77448
NDMP credentials are checked. We now have the situation that some drivepaths are fine and others are not.
Rebooting the NAS filers in not an option, we are running production.

Have you tried to delete devices in NBU and re-add using the wizard?
It does not require a reboot.

we tried that already with 2 tapedrives, one is fine the other one is not. In total we have 12 tapedrives all shared

I would personally delete all drives and then use the wizard to re-add and restart services/daemons.

I worked with TTFO7.6 on the migration part from Solaris to RH based on a disaster recovery as described in
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH77448
The catalog DR recovery by GUI wizard went fine and all policies, drives and paths have been recreated.
However, some (not all drives) show a RESTART for the shared paths to NetApp filers, while other drives behave normally.
Example:
Gent-Drive09 | besrvup-bck01 | TLD | /dev/nst8 | 8
Gent-Drive09 | besrvup-bck01 | RESTART | nrst5a | besrv-fas20 | 8
Gent-Drive10 | besrvup-bck01 | TLD | /dev/nst4 | 9
Gent-Drive10 | besrvup-bck01 | TLD | nrst4a | besrv-fas20 | 9 |
I also deleted two drives on the CLI and added them via command line afterwards.
After restarting the netbackup services, one drive is completely up, the shared paths to the files of the oter are again in "RESTART" control.
On CLI however, with "tpconfig -d" all the drives and paths are shown UP.
Help is much appreciated - thanks in advance.

When you have exhausted all avenues, delete all devices, restart NBU, then run the device config wizard (that will again restart ltid).
Good luck!

The problem has been solved by adding an EVAL license to the master server.
We were underlicensed for the Shared Storage Option (SSO).This caused the shared drive paths to be unavailable.
Thank you very much for your help and support.
