I was just reading that and checking my backups….

I am not seeing the issue – or I am reading this wrong

I have some 2008 servers in a policy that does ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES with multi-stream on.

For the 2008 servers I get a stream for

SET SNAP_ID=servername_1260927775

System_State:\

And going into the BAR is see this for a 2008 client ( and yes the operating system for that server in netbackup is listed as 2008)

1...what is this SET SNAP_ID=servername_1260927775 ????

2....is this for all version of WINDOWS OS or for 2008 specifically??

3....So what is it I am suppose to be missing from my backups?

4...SET SNAP_ID is for VSS snapshots?

1. That is just is snapshot ID - not sure where it gets the number from, it is not unix time unless that snapshot was done in 2009

2. Windows 2003 and 2008 i believe - those that use VSS

3. Nothing that i can see

4. yes - either the Shadow Copy components or any drive when usingVSS as the provider for open files

Please have a look on this page and its link. SET SNAP_ID is used internally for handling backups that leverages snapshot technology - including VSS.

BTW, what version of NetBackup are you using? This is an old issue and most of current running NB is not suffered, I suppose. You can browse Shadow Copy Components, so it have been backed up successfully.

When you back up a Windows 2008 server it always uses VSS to back up its Shadow Copy Components - it has no other way of doing it

The job simply reports the snashot id being used as it does this - purely informational and nothing to worry about

When a backup is running you can take a look if you wish (thoughh best to leave things alone really) to see what is happening using the two commands below:

bpfis query

vssadmin list shadows

That number is derived from Bill Gates' income stream at the given instant. surprise
