Shouldn't think there is any difference. The client (SQL server) will speak to the master bprd which will then initiate the job and from then on the process flow will be the same (I believe).

For the 1000000's time - ALL your questions so far are answered in the manuals!

See NBU for Microsoft SQL Server Admin Guide  http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC3670

Read Configuring a NetBackup for SQL Server Application Backup schedule starting on p. 37, as well as Application Backup on p. 41.

As suggested previously, PLEASE download all manuals for your NBU version.

All NBU 7.1 manuals:  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH154178

We really don't mind answering questions that are not explained clearly in manuals or assisting with troubleshooting of errors....

When i run manually inc backup of a sql policy from master server, the job comes like inc and on inc job there is no kb writing and above that default application jobs.Sometimes one stream of default appplication and sometimes 4 streams. What is this?

Backup type Description
The Application Backup schedule enables user-controlled
NetBackup operations from the client. These operations include
those initiated from the client and those initiated by an automatic
schedule on the master server. NetBackup uses the Application
Backup schedule when the user starts a backup manually.
Configure at least one Application Backup schedule for each
database policy. The Default-Application-Backup schedule is
configured automatically as an Application Backup schedule.
Application Backup
An Automatic Backup schedule specifies the dates and times for
NetBackup to automatically start backups. NetBackup runs the
scripts in the order that they appear in the file list. If there is more
than one client in the policy, the scripts are run on each client.

But how the streams are generated?

How does NetBackup for SQL Server back up a database?

When a backup script is executed, NetBackup for SQL Server does the following:

generates an SQL backup statement, logs into SQL Server, and delivers the SQL

statement to SQL Server through ODBC. Next, the database agent connects to SQL

Server through one or more VDI objects. One virtual device is created per backup

stripe. In addition, a VxBSA session is initiated for each stripe. These separate

sessions allow NetBackup to start a backup job for each stream that is generated

from SQL Server.

hi NIK i will strongly recommend to fully read at least 3 guides to better understand netbackup, start with the Netbackup Admin Guide, Netbackup Troubleshooting Guide and Netbackup MSSQL Admin Guide, it will save you a lot of time and increase your skills faster.

@revaroo:On what basis ,these streams are generated.

Suppose i ran a manual sql inc backup at 2 clock, then 2 default application streams are generated.

But when i ran at 4 clock,4 streams are generated. Why so?
