hello everyone

ı newly instaled and using just oracle backup netbackup 8.1 product

ı used directly policy on master server not and script on client

but sometimes get error 6 some db backup working wery well but some servers everyday get error 6

especialy a server running on two small oracle instance (12c and each instance 10 gb ) everyday get error6

my solution ( sometimes it is work) stop client bpdown -f -v command

after use that command "bpclntcmd -clear_host_cache" wait 20 sec. and after start client "bpup -f -v" command

click netbackup client if ı have seen directory structure on client agent software after start policy on master server backup is started but client software waiting like hang backup dosen't start and get sam error

Whenever bpbrm logs "error from client", look at the log for the client process to find the details.

hi thx for your answer

how can ı find the client process log ?

Your job report snippet shows that bphdb reported the error. Look on the client under NetBackup\logs\bphdb. This folder doesn't exist unless you create it.

I googled on bphdb on the general Internet and came up with this similar sounding solved discussion from 4 years ago:

https://vox.veritas.com/t5/NetBackup/bphdb-exit-status-6-the-backup-failed-to-back-up-the-requested/...

Keep in mind that the prior issue may not have been the same as yours. Start with the bphdb log.

when ı created folder start write logs

and found that

bphdb: failed executing command <"C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\bpdbsbora.exe" -enhbackup -L "BRMJBD300" -rw -i "C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\Logs\user_ops\dbext\logs\input.8100.0.0802118.075737" -jobid 20707>
bphdb: ERR - exit status: <1>
bphdb: ERR - bphdb exit status = 6: the backup failed to back up the requested files
bphdb: INF - EXIT STATUS 6: the backup failed to back up the requested files

anybody do you know what does it mean ?

but stop service and clear cache command wait 20 seconds after start services backup working well again

Status 6 is a generic error that simply means that Oracle rman commands have failed.
So, all troubleshooting needs to be done on the Oracle clients.
Could you please copy the entire log file in bphdb to bphdb.txt and upload here?

If DNS is used in the environment, then I do not understand why it is necessary to clear host cache to fix the issue.
Unless there are ongoing issues on DC with DNS. Have you checked with your Windows admin?

It seems that you are probably using Oracle Intelligent Policies, right?
Or maybe using templates?

Either of the above means that the backup scripts are created automatically.

For further troubleshooting, please ensure that these log folders exist (in addition to bphdb) :

install_path\NetBackup\logs\bpdbsbora
install_path\NetBackup\logs\dbclient

To ensure correct permissions on Oracle clients, please go through this section in NetBackup for Oracle Administrator's Guide   :

Configuring the logon account for the NetBackup Client Service for NetBackup for Oracle

One more thing:
If it seems as if 'software' is hanging on Oracle client, please check system resources (memory, cpu).
If Oracle (and/or other) processes are using all or most available resources, then backups are going to be an ongoing problem. Oracle rman and NBU processes need memory and cpu to run backups.

Agree with Marianne - Netbackup passes control to Oracle and no matter what failure comes back, we see it as error 6.

You definitly need to review the oracle logs as well as the NB Client logs to determine the issue.

Are these systems clustered? You likely should review the forward and reverse DNS to ensure there are no issues, because NetBackup is hyper sensitive to bad networking/dns configurations. It will find every issue you have.
