hi
i have nbu 7 installed on server 2008
i have had no problem restoring in the past but i cannot restore some images from a tape, i can still run backups to tapes fine
when i start a restore job it says "a pending action is associated with the resource request. User intervention may be required"
when i go into device monitor and assign the request it says "the request , request id could not be assigned to the selected tape drive : tapedrivename.
the drive is not ready or inoperable
any help would be appricated
as i mentioned backup (duplication) to tape is working fine.
I have restarted the master/media server and this is still an issue
thanks
Daryl

"drive is not ready or inoperable" is normally a tape driver issue.
What is the make/model of your tape drive?
Which drivers do you have installed?
If default Windows drivers, rather download and install manufacturer's drivers.
If drive is SAN attached/shared, please also disable TUR - see http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO56216

Try to verify backup image this will isolate the issue with hardware. It can be done through GUI or command line.
If verify is successful your restore should also work.
GUI:
NetBackup admin/Java console --> Catalog --> Under Action Select verify --> provide media id and date range --> Click on search now --> you will see list of backupids, select the Backupid that is being used for restore --> Right click --> Select verify --> on the new dialog box select the check box for "Enable Full Logging"
Command Line:
bpverify -backupid backup_id

See if there are any errors in Event Viewer System log.
The only TN that describes this error is very old: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH30178

i tried to restorea different file off another tape and it worked, tried the orginal file / tape again and it failed.
to me this would indicate the drive is ok ?
the tapes are LTO5
maybe a problem with the tape?

You can try verify operation for this tape as I mentioned in my previous post.
