unable to eject multiple tapes

I am unable to eject multiple tapes at a time.
I am using netbackup 4.5 fp6. It is patched with sun patch 116266-02.

The library is a Storagetek L700, 14 drives, 600+slots, 20 CAP slots.
I can use the vmadm command to eject a single tape to the CAP.

When I try to eject multiple tapes to the CAP, using vmadm or vmchange, it always fails.

vmchange -multi_eject -w -verbose -res -rt tld -rn 0 -rh hostname -ml 000812:000738:000877:000871:000779:000810:000921

I am thinking I'm missing some magic configuration button or something?

I have nothing to contribute to the above question as I was just coming to this board to post a similar one.

I to want to eject media from my library. I already have a script that identifies tapes that are full and I want to remove them and have them placed onsite.

My question which is almost exactly like the above, does anyone have any eject script they want to share ? I would only anticipate having to eject 10 to 20 media at any given time. Last I checked we were only filling between 10 and 20 daily.

Thanks all.

DON'T press return until after you have physically removed the tapes from the cap.

What is happening is that the eject operation is aborted because you didn't remove the tapes before hitting and the tapes are being placed back into the library slots.

This is very frustrating but that is what is happening.

Bob,

Thanks for this tidbit. I cannot believe I haven't found it anywhere else.
Does anyone know if there is a bug filed against this behavior.
The message should clearly state to empty the media access ports then hit return. Am I the only one who has ever been confused by this lame
message? Oh, well, live and learn I guess. I can say that now that
I have gotten the thing to work, but I must say when I first read Bob's
response I has ready to snap off some heads.

It is required to wait until you have removed the tapes and have let the physical inventory complete; Thats waht i learnt from my experience whe i was facing similar problem ;)

both Bob and Mayur have hit the nail on the head with their last 2 replies there..

the vmchange command does give pretty useless feedback for some of it's replies, ie the display -

194 000812 UNKNOWN 2 1 Eject aborted.
18 000738 UNKNOWN 3 1 Eject aborted.
50 000877 UNKNOWN 4 1 Eject aborted.
54 000871 UNKNOWN 5 1 Eject aborted.
186 000779 UNKNOWN 6 1 Eject aborted.
11 000810 UNKNOWN 7 1 Eject aborted.
451 000921 UNKNOWN 8 1 Eject aborted.

is not the most helpful message Veritas could give us :)
