There is a tech note anbout the upgrade path

About upgrade paths to the NetBackup 7.6.1 line of releases

All "base version" (e.g 7.5 or 7.6.0.1) need to be downloaded from fileconnect. Patches to Netbackup can be downloaded direct from Veritas website

Final piece of advice.

Use the NetBackup SORT process, and read the release notes, and read the installation notes on the download pages, and read the installation/upgrade guides...

...and only then develop a plan.

If you do not plan in advance, then it is very likely that you will not suceeed with your upgrade.

And, I don't mean 'plan in your mind'... I mean plan on paper (so to speak)... i.e. develop a plan in Word or Excel or MS Project or even in NotePad.  It doesn't matter what tool you use to plan - all that matters is that you do actually prepare a fairly comprehensive plan... based upon what you read/discover from SORT and the release notes and the install notes and the install/upgrade guides.

The 'Five Ps'...        PPPPP = Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance !!

.

P.S: Always ensure that you have a good full catalog backup BEFORE you actually upgrade.  And prefereably two copies.  You may need this catalog backup.

P.P.S:  To attempt an upgrade without a plan might be considered by some managers/employers as 'risky behaviour'.  And most managers/employers do not take kindly to enginneers taking risks with valuable company data.

Have a look at Release Details in this matrix: https://sort.symantec.com/eosl/show_matrix
(Select NetBackup Enterprise Server)

You will see that 7.6.0.1 was released on 2013-12-18.
7.6.1 was released on 2015-01-14 and the 7.6.1.1 patch on 2015-03-02.

There is no need to go to 7.6.0.1 first. You can upgrade directly to 7.6.1 and then patch to 7.6.1.1.

You can upgrade directly from v7.5.0.7 to v7.6.1 - and therefore skip the v7.6.0.x range.

N.B: v7.6.1 was missing some of the fixes that were added to v7.6.0.4.  It is v7.6.1.1 which restored parity to, and added additional enhancements/fixes over and above, v7.6.0.4.

So, if you do decide upon the v7.6.1.x range, then really one should consider upgrading to v7.6.1 and then also patching to v7.6.1.1.

But then again, v7.6.1.1 is so new, and not yet widely deployed that you may want to consider hanging back at v7.6.0.4 for a while - to see how the dust settles.

.

The killer question is...

...have you checked the compatibility matrices in minute/extreme detail to determine whether you are 'good' to upgrade ?

If not, then many of us here will very strongly recommend that you follow the NetBackup SORT process which can be of great assistance in helping you plan your upgrade - and hopefully pick up on any issues/problems that you may want to (read this as 'must') consider BEFORE actually upgrading.

P.P.P.S:  Many of us here have used NetBackup for several years - and I am very confident in saying that we ourselves *ALL* always use SORT, and read the release notes, and read the install notes, and read the install/upgrade guides before developing the plan.

You should do what we do.

.

P.P.P.P.S:  And some of us (especially when working with important customers) will even go so far as to carefully read through every single entry in the EEB guide - to look ahead for known issues with known work arounds, and more importantly to catch the odd issue for which there is no current fix and no known workaround.
