vmware backup Sharepoint w./NLB confused...

Customer using shareponit backup to protect their application. In addition they use vmware backup of the servers in the sharepoint farm, manual selection,VMhostname as primary VM identifier. (several servers and using NLB).

We are seeing hostname beeing added to the polices client list (no kidding, no ghosts)...

Ex. servername.xx.yy is present i policies client list.

SERVERNAME  or nlb_servername.xx.yy is added. (?!)

The way microsoft have designed their nlb, "clustering" and following DNS confusion is *!#

This causes the following backup to try backin' up the same server to or three times.

Have searched, read and looked....    found "disableIPresolution" (but not slow browse).

I'm confused.

The way VMhostname is determine is by getting the primary IP address from the VM and performing a reverse lookup of that IP address.  If the machine has multiple IP addresses with multiple aliases, this could result in multiple names depending on which IP address is chosen.

Have you attempted not using VM Host name as the identifier and tried using display name?
