vmware backups failing with status code 6

mobyslick1999

Hello,

I would appreciate any assistance with troubleshooting VMWARE backups. It was working briefly using the nbd transport method but seems to have started failing with status code 6 and status code 23.

our environment:

linux master server -- netbackup 7.5.0.6

linux media server with lto6 robot - netbackup 7.5.0.6

Windows 2k08r2 VM backup/recovery host - netbackup 7.5.0.6

windows 2k08r2 VSPHERE server running vsphere 5.0

It seems to create the snap shots successfully within vsphere but then errors out when writing back to netbackup

so are you using the NBD transport?

if yes are you able to communicate with the ESXi host over the port 902?

please check it from the backup host to ESXI host

telnet <ESXIhost name> 902

Telnet is a great start as your having communication issues between the media and vmware. Make sure to use the VMWare hostname you have configured in NetBackup. Also check the DNS names to make sure they are being resolved for the correct ipaddress to the ESX and vSphere environments.

If DNS and telnet check out then please reply with bpfis, and bpbrm logs. (verbose 5 and rerun).

thank you for the response!  The security profile of the esx server had the incorrect subnet in the services portion and was blocking port 902. The settings were in the configuration tab of the esx server using the vsphere client.
