NetBackup does not store the IP address.

Device-related records for a tape library depends on the type of connection.

If SCSI/Fibre, the hardware device address (/dev/sg... ) is stored in NBU.

If robot is controlled by ACSLS, the hostname of the ACSLS server is stored in NBU.
Hostname -> IP address lookup is controlled at OS-level - either /etc/hosts or DNS.

To know how the robot is connected, check output of:
/usr/openv/volmgr/bin/tpconfig -l

You can find the IP address of the robot on the operator panel.

NetBackup does not communicate with robots / libraries over IP. Unless its an ACS configuration. Does your robot show TLD or ACS?

hello,

pardon the lateness of my reply. i never found out, via the master server, the ip address of the tape library. i did try "/usr/openv/volmgr/bin/tpconfig -l" but it pointed me to some device names in "/dev". there are no entries in "/etc/hosts" file either.

so i ended up crafting an RJ-45 to USB cable in order to get into the console port of the SL500 and only then i found the ip address.

my understanding was the tape library uses this ip address to communicate with the master server but it seems this is only used as a management ip.

thanks for all the replies!

As per our posts above - NBU does not need or store the library IP address. That is why NBU commands did not help. tpconfig was meant to show you how the robot is connected. Nicolai's recommendation would work.
