I'd like to sign up for the $10/month for 10GB plan.
1. Can I just use my own FTP software to upload my files to your servers?
i.e. I don't want to use Backup Exec.
Possibly use Ghost 14, or something else.
2. Can you lock the account at 10GB max?
I don't want to have to pay overages if I accidentally exceed my quota.
I would rather have the FTP fail on a "Disk quota exceeded" message.
Thank you for your interest in our product.
1. At this time, there isn’t a way to backup or retrieve data over FTP.
However, SPN currently offers two different services: Online Backup, and
Online Storage for Backup Exec.
Online Backup is a standalone service where you install a rather small agent on
your server or workstation and it uploads your selected files to our servers.
Our Online Storage product, is an add on service to Symantec Backup Exec 12 or higher, which allows you to choose our servers as a destination for your backups. Hopefully this answers your first question.
2. Good question, but currently no.
However, people tend to associate overage fees with the way cell phone
companies charge for exceeding ones minutes. Our overage fees for the most part
cost you no more than if you were paying for a higher plan.
An example scenario is one where you sign up for the $9.99 10GB plan, and you
are over the 10GB by 15G for a total of 25GB at the end of your billing month.
The overage fees are calculated at $2.50 per GB costing you an additional
$37.50. So, your $9.99 + Overages of $37.50 bring your bill to $47.49, which is
actually cheaper than signing up for the 25GB plan!
This is a way of showing that, even though you may incur overages, they are treated fairly and not inflated. We also send you warnings as you approach (and exceed) your quota to allow you to take
action if desired.
