Possible to use OpsCenter with Backup Exec 2010?

Hi,

anyone uses OpsCenter with Back Exec 2010? Tried it but can't get it work :(

The 7.0 Admin Guide says Backup Exec 10d, 11d, 12 and 12.5 only.

I expect BE2010 support will come in a future (the next?) Release Update.

It is scheduled to be supported in 7.0.0.1 that includes lot of updates specially with Opscenter . You might see that release somewhere in May 2010 .

That would be just like a patch or an EEB .

If you call support and start a new case  they can give you a bundle of fixes for Opscenter which ne of these contains support for BE 2010.

ET1998555 : Backup Exec 2010 Data Collection Support in OpsCenter.

Bundle 70EEB003 resolves this issue, future version of OpsCenter will contain fix.

I have installed the patch 7.0.1 and I'm getting exactly the same error messages.

Is the agent installed on Backup exec server and is it also been patched to 7.0.1

I am having the same issue as tw71 above... A4011: Error while Policy data collection: Return Code: -100 BE Server Connection issue.

I have the 7.0.1 agent installed on the BackupExec server and have confirmed that the OpsCenter Agent and Private Branch Exchange services are running.  I have also confirmed that I can connect over port 1556 from the OpsCenter server to the BackupExec server.

Does anyone have any suggestions or have they been able to get OpsCenter 7.0.1 to work with BackupExec 2010?

Backup Exec 2010 R2 is not supported with OCS 7.0.1 .

Also Backup Exec 2010 is not supported on 64 bit OS .

Please verify that , else you can open a ticket with Symantec .

Are you stating that? I couldn't find it in the rest of the forum query...but BE 2010 R2, and BE 2010 for that matter, ARE supported on a 64-bit OS...it is the only way to back up Exchange 2010!

What I mean to say is , reporting on Backup Exec with below configuration is not supported .

Hence you should not add Backup Exec servers with below configuration in Opscenter Server with 7.0.1 .

It might work but not supported .

Backup Exec 2010 R2  .

Backup Exec 2010  on 64 bit OS .

Seems like Symantec is either not really developing this product much, or is very slow on the uptake. Pity because I was considering it, but the support for BE 2010 at that stage in 2010 was virtually non-existant. So we're investing elsewhere for reporting =/

Currently OpsCenter 7.0.1 supports the following Backup Exec platforms by remote agent.

• Backup Exec 10d
• Backup Exec 11d
• Backup Exec 12.0
• Backup Exec 12.5
• Backup Exec 2010

Native agent on backup servers on Windows 2003 (SP2 & R2), 2008 (SP2 & R2)

Note: OpsCenter does not support Symantec Backup Exec running on NetWare.

In addition, OpsCenter does not support data collection from Backup Exec software installed on
a 64-bit Windows machine.

Please Note: Port 6106 is required for data collection / Backup Exec -- pg 280

Page 363  describes how to setup the data collector along with requirements about additional C++ Libraries for use with Data Collection.

Caution: The Backup Exec data collector requires the following component to be
installed on the OpsCenter Agent host, to collect data properly.

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) that is vcredist_x86.exe

   OC 7.1 does support collecting data from backup Exec 2010 R2 . More over it also supports collecting data from supported backup exec version installed on 64 bit OS , which was not supported before .
