I want to replicate a single host Oracle 10g server's databases to another site such that should the primary site fail the 2nd can be started up on a upto date copy of the database immediately. But I don't want to use a database specific replication product - hence VVR.
I've tried the resync methods in the VVR admin guide and got stuck on the part where you replace the current replication volumes on the secondary site with the ones transported from the primary site. I get all the way (painful or what) to the last statement on P186 or the part on P164 of the Admin Guide (V4.2) where the statement "Now add these new volumes ... as part of the Secondary RVG". How do you do this?
Do you not create the secondary RVG until you have shipped the disks to the second site or what do you do if replication has already been set up - I don't see how you can remove the secondary's volumes and replace them with the shipped ones?
