Eric is correct... you can use pause and resume. Pause will make the SRL fill up (similar to a network outage), until you Resume.
If you stop replication, then there is no way to guarantee that both sides are the same, so the default "start" replication will want to re-syncronize the data.
However you can also start replication with a "force" option, if you know both sides are the same... just be careful here. Before you stop replication make sure you STOP ALL APPLICATIONS AND UNMOUNT ALL FILE SYSTEMS (on Windows unassign the drive letter, too). Make sure the SRL is drained before stopping replication (see "vxrlink status" command)
