Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows error, but it is not installed

I have a backup that had been running fine for months, suddenly it has started failing with the error

Final error: 0xe0008527 - VERITAS Storage Foundation for Windows (VSFW) unexpectedly failed. Check that the VSFW service is running, and check the status of existing disk groups and volumes.

We do not have the VSFW installed, the job has the AOFO option selected but it is using the Microsoft Volume Shadow Service, and doing a 'vssadmin list writers' does not list the VSFW as a writer.

I have tried creating a new job with the selection list from the failing job, but this also fails with the same error.

System is Server 2003 SP! and we are running backup exec 10d.

Any ideas how I can resolve this problem?

In the AOFO properties of the job, is the job set to "Automatically select a snapshot technology"? If so, fix it to "Microsoft VSS".

If that doesn't help, did you install any new software recently?
