Hi ,

I have two questions

1. What is the usage of Veritas Grid Service ?

2. Is there any technical document which let us know the internal communication that happens between LLT GAB ,HAD etc.I want to know in a two node cluster when one node boots up or the cluster service is started what happens in backgroup and what is the default timeout period.

Thanks in advance

Your prompt reply will be much appreciated

Regards

Deepak Anand

grid node is a vxpal agent which was used for SFM 1.x product. (Storage Foundation Manager). SFM is a storage management tool over SF/HA product(s).

Its primary usage was for a couple of things:

1) having calls made across managed host and central server.

2) It has an inbuilt scheduler - which SFM used to schedule resource discovery on the managed host.

Over years SFM has evolved into VOM - where the gridnode agent is no longer used. If you are not running SFM 1.x - then for all practical reasons, the vxpal agent can be shutdown.

Thanks,

 Vidyut.

I am trying to find proper explanation of gridnode...

About question 2 - the information that you are looking for is in the VCS Admin Guide. You can find the manual for your OS and SFW/HA version on SORT : scroll down to Veritas Storage Foundation and High Availability.

There is unfortunately very little in the Windows version of the VCS admin guide about "inter-system cluster communications". It is explained in detail in the Linux/Unix manuals with diagrams. See p.301 of this Linux manual :

About cluster communications
VCS uses local communications on a system and system-to-system communications.
See “About intra-system communications” on page 302.
See “About inter-system cluster communications” on page 302.

Thanks Vidut for your reply ,

We are using VSF/HA 5.1 Sp2 for Windows and the Veritas gridnode service is still there and running.

it will be in dormant mode and does not affect any functionality. Are you seeing any issues with this particular service being up and running? If so, please let us know accordingly.

If not, you can keep it running or turn it off completely. As mentioned in the previous post as well, it was used for SFM 1.x and now with VOM, this service and its functionality is not used any more.
