I have a sun server which lost the root disk. so i copied data from an altboot disk.
My server is now booted free of veritas configuration. Veritas 3.5 packages are on the new boot disk.
I need to activate veritas on the new disk. I ran "vxinstall" and getting the following menu. I really don't need to encapsulate my root disk.. all i need is to bring back online the existing data disk group which from the externel disk.
Any input of what shall i do with this menu?
Volume Manager Installation Options
Menu: VolumeManager/Install
1 Quick Installation
2 Custom Installation
3 Prevent multipathing/Suppress devices from VxVM's view
? Display help about menu
?? Display help about the menuing system
q Exit from menus
Thanks

Version 3.5 has been EOL for so long that it seems like a bad memory....
You need a rootdg with 3.5. Either encapsulate the boot disk or provide another disk. See the installation Guide: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH20934
See the topic Running the vxinstall Program .
Always choose Custom install.
This URL describes how to bypass vxinstall and create rootdg on a single slice: http://www.unixway.com/vm/veritasvm/rootdg.html
This method was 'unsupported', but since your VxVM version is no longer supported (2006-02-13), it really doesn't matter anymore.
